Leavesden is part of Watford in Hertfordshire, close to London. It takes as little as 12 minutes to get from Watford Junction train station to London Euston, and so Watford is an ideal base to make trips into London whilst in the area visiting Leavesden.

Watford town centre is about 5 minutes by car from Leavesden, and boasts a number of hotels, a large shopping centre (The Harlequin), and a long high street with many bars, pubs, cafes and nightclubs.
Close to Leavesden Studios there is also the Woodside leisure park with a multi screen cinema, a bowling alley, bars and restaurants.
For lovers of the outdoors and sports, Leavesden is close to Cassiobury Park (which includes a large playground, paddling pool and childrens train), the Grove Hotel and golf course, and Watford stadium in Vicarage Road.
The Warner Bros Studio tour (The Making of Harry Potter) commences in spring 2012 at Leavesden Studios, but the studios have been used to make a number of famous films since the mid 1990s including- 'Goldeneye', 'Star Wars Episode 1' as well as the 'Harry Potter' movies.
Prior to being used as a film studios, the site housed a Rolls Royce aeronautical engine design and assembly plant, and as an airfield which saw use in World War Two.
Other than the Studios and former Rolls Royce site Leavesden is known for being the location of a large Victorian built psychiatric assylum/hospital for many years. The hospital finally closed in 1997 and the site was redeveloped for housing, although a charity opperates from the original chapel.
